At Greg’s Small Engine Service & Repair we are often asked how often you should service your snow blower when you live in Northern Nevada, Truckee, Lake Tahoe or the surrounding areas. There is not one right answer to this question, but I will give you some guidelines.
Get Out Your Snow Blower Owner’s Manual
The first and most important thing you need to do is did out your snow blower owner’s manual. The owner’s manual will give you the basic overview for your specific machine and also provide you with fluid levels, parts and lubricant information.
Standard Snow Blow Maintenance
You will probably store your snow blower for a good part of the year as we typically get snow for 3 -4 months out of the year. Here are some things you should keep an eye on:
- Check the oil and change (recommend once a season)
- Check gas
- Inspect and tighten all bolts, screws and belts, making sure that nothing is loose
- Replace spark plug, fuel and filters
- Lubricate drives and chassis
- Check tires and chains
